Spencer, IA (KICD)– Weather conditions last week that spilled into the current week were a bit abnormal in several ways especially considering how winter started.

USDA Midwest Climate Hub Director Dennis Todey tells us despite this elongated stretch of well below normal temperatures, it is still too early to know how much of an affect it will have on overall average for the month.

Another big abnormality with the days leading up to the middle of January was having two very strong low pressure systems move through the region in quick succession.

As Todey notes, there is a strong likelyhood that temperatures will work their way back above normal going into next week after a brief encore with colder air Friday in Saturday, but how warm will get will greatly depend on air movement over the state as well as how much snow is on the ground.
