Sanborn, IA (KICD)– We are learning new details about what happened just before a bank robbery was reported Monday afternoon in Sanborn.

The O’Brien County Communications Center received a 911 call from Sanborn Savings Bank just after one o’clock with bank officials telling police a black male had entered the financial institution and handed a note to a teller that said stated it was a robbery and demanded cash.

An undetermined amount of money was taken from the bank as the suspect left the scene on foot with no weapons being displayed or referenced according to law enforcement.

Responding officers were able to get descriptions from those inside with the suspect being identified as Del Martinnez Evans Jr. who was taken into custody at his nearby home about an hour later.

Evans Jr. has been formally charged with second degree robbery and second degree theft. He remains incarcerated in the O’Brien County Jail on 15 thousand dollars bond.

As a precaution, schools, banks, daycares and other businesses in the community were advised to go into lockdown until the situation was resolved.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and included a search warrant being executed at Evans’s home Monday evening.
