Spencer, IA (KICD)– There is a major need for blood products at medical facilities across the country and Spencer Hospital is hoping to do its part to help at the local level.
Matt Lockey is the hospital’s Laboratory Director. He says Spencer is among more than 160 hospitals in the region that work with LifeServe Blood Center for their products which has allowed a number of lives to be saved just in the last year.
Lockey says the winter months tend to be the time of year when blood products are in the highest demand while also having the lowest stock largely because weather has a tendency to cancel blood drives.
Spencer Hospital hosts regular blood drives as does the Southpark Mall and other communities around the area. Those wanting to schedule a donation can do so by going to lifeservebloodcenter.org.
