Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors spent nearly an hour revisiting conflict of interest claims against a member of the board on Tuesday.

The accusations come from a group opposed to the future construction of a wind farm in Dickinson County that date back to a business acquisition by Supervisor Tim Fairchild a number of years ago.

County Attorney Steve Goodlow defended actions taken to this point by saying all inquiries were run by higher ranking officials before any decisions were made.

After all of that, Fairchild says he was given the impression that he was not expected to abstain from votes on the matter for reasons of representation.

There was no action following Tuesday’s discussion, but a request was brought forward for the board to work on ways to improve transparency for the future to help ensure future residents are not ultimately scared away from deciding to serve in an elected capacity.
