Remsen, IA (KICD)– Some new details have been made public in relation to a statewide Amber Alert that was issued Tuesday afternoon.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety issued the alert on behalf of the Jefferson Police Department around 3:30, about three hours after 7-year-old Bryson Duong was reported to have been taken from the playground of the Greene County School by a non-custodial parent.
A little over an hour after the alert was issued, a pickup matching the description given to police was spotted in Woodbury County with the driver reportedly failing to pull over for a traffic stop which led to a multiple county pursuit going as far east as part of Cherokee County before ultimately ending when the vehicle crashed in Plymouth County when the suspect is then said to have taken off on foot in to a field with the child while also being armed with the rifle.
A perimeter was established by multiple law enforcement agencies including two armored vehicles from a local CERT unit and the Iowa State Patrol. A standoff then ensued for several hours before 34-year-old Brandon Duong was taken into the custody around eight o’clock charged with first degree kidnapping as well as a warrant for violating a custody order. Police say the investigation into the matter is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
Bryson was also safely located and put into the care of the Department of Human Services.
