Emmetsburg, IA (KICD) — The public got to see the new Palo Alto County jail during an open house Saturday. Sheriff John King expects the first prisoners by the end of the month.

King says combining the jail and communications center allows the system to operate with fewer employees.

The new Palo Alto County Jail and Sheriff’s office features more security, private meeting areas, dedicated record and evidence rooms, and an indoor prisoner transfer area.

The new Palo Alto County jail replaces a structure that was built in 1908. The Sheriff thanks for the public for supporting the bond issue, and for their patience during construction.
