Storm Lake, IA (KICD)– A Storm Lake man who escaped from police custody is behind bars after spending more than twelve hours on the run.
25-year-old Luis Rodriguez is said to have escaped while being taken to a patrol car Monday evening following a pre-incarceration screening at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center with officers unable to locate him until Tuesday afternoon when he was spotted in Schaller (Shay-ler) still partially restrained with handcuffs according to a Storm Lake official.
Further investigation determined after breaking free from the arresting officer, Rodriguez stole an unlocked vehicle driving until it ran out of fuel in Sac County.
Rodriguez faces new charges of first degree theft and escape from custody on top of the original arrest for fourth degree criminal mischief, interference with official acts, fifth degree theft and second offense trespassing.
He is being held in the Buena Vista County Jail on 13 thousand dollars bond.
