Spencer, IA (KICD) — There’s a lack of emergency medical service in rural Iowa that continues to get worse. During a joint meeting in December, Clay County Supervisor Allen Batschelet said there are fewer people in remote areas who can drop everything and help their neighbors.
Spencer Fire chief Jesse Coulson says it’s very likely that the days of volunteer service are over.
Spencer City Manager Dan Gifford says the city, county, and Spencer Hospital have agreed to perform a study on the current state of Emergency Medical Services county-wide, and will be putting together a list of questions they’d like answered.
