Gruver, IA (KICD)– Firefighters from multiple are departments battled gusty winds for several hours Sunday after a grass fire ignited near Gruver.

The call came in around 4:30 where a grassland and timber area was found burning which spread quickly in winds peaking at nearly 50 mph.

By the time all was said and done, crews from Gruver, Estherville and Wallingford spent about six hours on scene with the blaze scorching around 50 acres of land.

Fire chiefs from around Emmet County met Monday afternoon to discuss the possibility of a burn ban and while no one involved in the discussions necessarily like the idea of such a move, a post to social media by Emmet County Emergency Management notes that if conditions do not improve in coming days, a burn ban could be implemented as early as next week.
