Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council on Monday awarded a local contract to construct turn lanes off of Highway 71 into the new subdivision being created at the North Y.

Engineer Ross McWhirter from Kruse, Cate and Nelson reviewed with the bids with the council noting the low bid was very close to the original estimate.

A big piece to the savings on the 357 thousand dollar contract when compared to the other the bids was for mobilization.

The turn lanes were a requirement put forth by the Iowa Department of Transportation for safety reasons and to make future work at the junction of Highways 71 and 18 possible in the future. This portion of the overall project is expected to be completed by mid-October.
