Spencer, IA (KICD)– The City of Spencer received information this week on a study of the landfill near Graettinger that could ultimately help with setting up new rate structures in the future.
Matt Stoffel with PFM Final Advisors told the City Council Monday night one of the biggest findings of this study is that there is a big fluctuation on revenues at the landfill from one year to the next which can make planning for big projects more difficult.
Stoffel adds an entity like a landfill is not exactly a profit collector but more of a need that has to be fulfilled.
That being said the overall tonnage of material coming into the landfill is going up according to data from the study.
The data presented Monday night was meant to be more informative to give city officials an idea of where to go next with no official rate recommendations being made at this time. The hope, however, is to have a structure in place by the start of the Fiscal Year 2026.
