Des Moines, IA (Radio Iowa)– The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the life sentence of a Dickinson County man in the shooting death of a woman outside a Milford business more than two years ago.

Christian Goyne-Yarns of Spirit Lake was convicted of first degree murder in the shooting death of Shelby Woizeschke in the parking lot of GrapeTree Medical Staffing in Milford in February 2022.

Goyne-Yarns appealed the decision that took a Buena Vista County jury less an hour to reach after several days of testimony with the defendent saying there was not enough evidence to support his conviction or to show he planned the shooting ahead of time.

The Court of Appeals ruling notes some evidence was missing from the case, including the gun used in the shooting, but Woizeschke’s 9-1-1 call identifying Goyne-Yarns as the shooter along with surveillance video submitted at trial was substantial enough to uphold the conviction.
