Sioux City, IA (KICD)– A Spirit Lake man will spend some time in federal prison after being convicted last Fall in a weapons case.
36-year-old Andrew Mitchell was given 18 months behind bars on Wednesday after pleading guilty in October to possessing a firearm as a prohibited person stemming from a previous drug conviction.
Mitchell admitted in court that he had given police a false name and was found to be in possession of multiple illegal substances after being stopped for riding his bike on the wrong side of the road in Spencer.
Following his time in prison, Mitchell will be required to serve two years on supervised release. He is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshalls pending transfer to a federal facility.
