Spencer, IA (KICD)– St. Patrick’s Day is just days away and while many are hoping to enjoy their Irish heritage, local law enforcement is committed to reducing the number of fatalities on Iowa roads.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull tells KICD News last year’s statistics show a shocking number of deaths around the holiday during a month that saw some of the most deaths in five years.

Trooper Krull says the best way to avoid either a crash or some hefty costs associated with DUI is to simply plan ahead.

So far in 2024, 46 people have lost their lives on Iowa roads which seven lower than the same time last year.
