Estherville, IA (KICD)– The Emmet County Board of Supervisors is going back to the drawing board for a renovation project to the courthouse in Estherville after receiving a second bid that came in well over budget.

The board opened a new 1.8 million dollar bid last week after rejecting a 1.9 million dollar bid several months earlier for a project that Supervisor Jeff Quastad says started some time ago to make the current building more ADA accessible.

Supervisor Tim Schumacher added that the concern with both bids coming in more than half a million dollars above the goal of 1.2 million dollars is where the extra money not covered by American Rescue Plan funds will come from especially considering that money must be designated by the end of the year.

After rejecting the bid, the Board of Supervisors noted future discussion will take place on what a new project could like to still fulfill needs of the county and also get some offices into a better location.
