Slayton, MN (KICD)– A Southwest Minnesota man wanted for vehicle thefts in multiple counties is now in custody.
The search for 25-year-old Sean Vanmeveren began earlier this month after he reportedly fled and stole a pickup from south of Mankato after law enforcement was able to disable a different vehicle that had been engaged in a pursuit. That truck was later discovered on Saturday in Jackson County at a farm site where a third vehicle had been stolen which was recovered near the Martin and Emmet County line where yet another truck was taken.
Vanmeveren was taken into custody Wednesday morning following a more than 40 mile pursuit with authorities in Murray and Cottonwood Counties into the city of Westbrook which led to the local school being put in a brief lockdown.
In total, Vanmeveren was wanted in five counties for vehicle theft and previous pursuits including both Jackson and Emmet Counties.
