Paullina, IA (KICD)– A Northwest Iowa school district has settled a sexual abuse lawsuit involving a special education student.

The South O’Brien Community School District has agreed to pay 625 thousand dollars to settle the suit filed in August 2022 by the family of a special education student that they say was sexually assaulted by another student during school hours.

The lawsuit alleged the victim was assaulted by another special education student at times when they were the only students being instructed by a single staff member.

Three faculty members named as defendants in the lawsuit were no longer employed by South O’Brien Schools at the time the lawsuit was filed.
