The City of Storm Lake is exploring options to contain a problem surrounding the consumption of alcohol after bar close and the amount of crime associated with the action.

Police Chief Chris Cole says the problem with afterhours businesses is not unique to Storm Lake, but it has escalated in recent years.

Chief Cole is suggesting the city council look into a new ordinance covering such businesses.

Chief Cole says the recent issues have resulted in his officers being called for a number of different incidents.

Cole says similar regulation to what is being proposed in Storm Lake has already been implemented and seen success in other communities.
