Spencer, IA (KICD)– There continue to be some mixed feelings around Iowa and locally following the passage of the “School Choice” bill that was identified as a top priority for 2023 by Governor Kim Reynolds
Spencer Community Schools Superintendent Terry Hemann talked with KICD News Tuesday after the bill had been signed into law showing his disapproval of the fast-track the legislation was put on.
Hemann says his issues with the new law are not based on potentially having more competition in getting more students but more along with lines of the fact that private schools will not be required to be as open with the general public.
Another opposition is fairness in funding for public schools.
The “School Choice” law passed through both chambers of the legislator without any support from Democrats along with three Republican senators and nine representatives voting no.
