Ames, IA (KICD) — Northwest Iowa Dairy farmers are being asked to be extra cautious now that High Pathogen Avian Influenza has been diagnosed in nine states INCLUDING South Dakota just over our border.
Phillip Jardon is the chief Dairy Veterinarian at Iowa State University.
Jardon tells KICD News many of the current cases are from animals moved in from infected herds. He suggests quarantining ANY new animals brought to a farm.
Several states have placed restrictions on the movement of dairy cattle. So far the Iowa Department of Agriculture is just warning farmers to be vigilant, and to report suspected cases immediately.
