Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors held a long awaited public hearing Tuesday morning pertaining to updates to the local pipeline ordinance.
One of the major concerns shared by member of the public in the past has been safety with a potential carbon dioxide pipeline coming through the area which was briefly addressed by Zoning Administrator Megan Kardell during the reading of the lengthy ordinance.
Resident Bonnie Ewalt went before the board noting another concern revolving the route of the proposed pipeline.
Scott O’Konek with Summit Carbon Solutions noted the ordinance put together by Dickinson County is very similar to those by Shelby and Story Counties that have been challenged in court and that, he says, could hurt the competitive nature of such a project if actually implemented.
Following nearly an hour of discussion and reading of the ordinance, the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the updated ordinance.
