Spencer, IA (KICD)– The old saying April showers bring May flowers may be in place this Spring after a warm and wet April across much of Iowa.
State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the average temperature coming out more than two and a half degrees above average in Spencer last month is fairly consistent with other parts of the state with local rainfall of more than five and a half inches being wetter than other locations.
With all of that heavy rain in recent days, area rivers have begun to rise for the first time in what to some may feel like an eternity.
We cannot talk about this past April without mentioning the very active weather pattern that led to multiple bouts with severe weather which raises the question are we in for a similar pattern throughout the summer.
On the positive side of seeing a more active weather pattern is the continued reduction in drought conditions which as of Thursday morning cover just under half of Iowa, down from 58 percent a week ago.
