An Okoboji home sustained significant damage after a fire broke out Saturday afternoon.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth tells us a call for an automated fire alarm was received from a home known as the “Chateau at 1503 Givens Street just after 1:30 p.m.

Because of the size of the structure that was burning, additional help was called in from the Spirit Lake Fire Department.

Maintenance workers had been inside earlier in the day getting the home ready for summer occupancy but had left shortly before the fire ignited. The home, which was built in 1920, is likely going to be considered a total loss with damage estimated to be more than 300 thousand dollars.The blaze itself has been ruled accidental in nature.
