Washington DC (Northwestiowanow.com) — Things improved again in the weekly update of the USDA farm network. Last week both the areas of D2 severe drought and D1 moderate drought were expanding East across the KICD Broadcast area. In Thursday’s update the moderate drought has receded to Western Lyon, Sioux, and Plymouth Counties; with severe drought only in the northwest tip of Lyon County, and Western Plymouth County – which is the Western-most part of the state.
Here in the corridor: O’Brien, Osceola, Dickinson, and Emmet County are 100 percent abnormally dry; Most of Clay, 2/3rds of Cherokee, and 1/3rd of Palo Alto County are abnormally dry with the rest of our nine counties normal.

The rest of Iowa is also normal except for an abnormally dry pocket in Southeast Iowa just South of Iowa City.
