(NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Community members in Cherokee and Perry are mourning the loss of a local superintendent’s daughter following reports of a fatal traffic accident.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, twenty-two-year-old Kiersten Ryherd of Cherokee died Monday following a two-vehicle collision on Sergeant Road in Waterloo. State troopers report Ryherd’s southbound vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle driven by fifty-year-old Cory Brown. Brown was treated for minor injuries. Ryherd was transported to the hospital, where she later passed away from her injuries.
Ryherd is the daughter of Cherokee School District Superintendent Tom Ryherd, who is scheduled to transition to the Perry School District at the end of June.
Services for Kiersten Ryherd will be held Wednesday, May twenty-seventh, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
