Laurens, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — We have an update to a story we first brought you last week, but now authorities have released details on the high-speed chase that ended in a dramatic rollover crash near Laurens.
The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened May 18th around 11 a.m. near a rural farm south of Laurens. A deputy spotted 43-year-old Jonathan Edward Meier of Omaha who was wanted for questioning in a recent burglary. Deputies say Meier flee in a Chevy Silverado, tearing through a field and leading officers on a multi-mile chase into Laurens. The pursuit turned onto the railtracks as Meier turned and rode the rails for about two blocks. He then lost control while trying to exit, causing the truck to roll over.
Meier was ejected from the vehicle and hospitalized for his injuries. Charges and traffic violations are currently pending. Multiple agencies assisted Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office including the Iowa State patrol and Union Pacific Railroad.
