IOWA (Northwestiowanow) — The Iowa DNR is reporting a promising outlook for anglers across Northwest Iowa this season.
Fisheries Manager and DNR Biologist Andrew Carlson says the agency is currently conducting its annual intensive lake sampling program, focusing on several lakes across the region this year, including Spirit Lake and Lost Island Lake.
Meanwhile, the start of the fishing season this year has brought a strong turnout across Northwest Iowa, with interest boosted by both local anglers and visitors traveling to the region.
Carlson notes that interest is expected to continue with Iowa’s annual Free Fishing Weekend.
The event is designed to introduce new anglers to fishing, as well as encourage families to spend time outdoors.
For more information, Carlson says people can visit the iowadnr.gov, which has details on fishing regulations, events, and fisheries management.
