Sheldon, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — The Sheldon Fire Department responded to a garage fire Thursday evening.

Fire Chief Brad Hindt tells Northwest Iowa Now the department was paged to 901 6th Street in Sheldon at approximately 7:30pm. Once on scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the overhead door on the south side. An interior attack was made through the walk-in door. The garage door was also removed to gain access.

It appears the fire started in the southwest corner of the structure. The garage had heavy damage, a 2021 Ford and 2017 Ford were both totaled. Firefighters used about 20,000 gallons of water and 10 gallons of foam.

The fire is under investigation.
