Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Softball team hosted Algona on Tuesday night to wrap up the 2026 regular season.

Spencer would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning. Jasmyn Christensen reached on an error, followed by back-to-back singles from Madi Steven and Jill Kabrick. Kelsi Sonius would bring in Christensen on the sacrifice fly, making it 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.

It was a night of highs and lows for the Algona defense. In the two innings where Spencer scored runs, the Bulldogs combined for 3 errors. They also had three double plays over the course of the evening, beginning with one initiated by Bella Jo Dunning in the bottom of the 3rd, neutralizing one of those errors.

Spencer would still manage to score in the 3rd. After the double-play, Jersey Vail ripped an RBI single, driving in Lucy Simington to extend the Spencer lead to 2.

The next Algona double-play came in the bottom of the 4th when Taylor Van Otterloo was able to snag a soft line drive off the bat of Dakota Lux in left field, before firing it into first base to catch Jill Kabrick off bag.

Spencer starting pitcher Jersey Vail came into the evening 10 strikeouts away from 500 for her career. The Tiger Junior hit that mark in the top of the 5th.

Algona had made a pitching change from Ellie Brinkley to Katie Trunkhill in the 4th inning, and Trunkhill was able to keep Spencer from adding any more runs to their 2-0 lead. The Bulldog defense shined in the top of the 7th.

The Algona offense couldn’t every quite get started, only getting multiple runners on base in the 3rd and 6th innings. They would go 3-up-3-down in the top of the 7th as Spencer locked up the win, finishing the regular season at 24-6 as they prepare for their Regional Quarterfinal matchup at home on Thursday against Le Mars.

Algona drops to 21-6 and finish out their regular season. The Bulldogs will host Okoboji for the regional Quarterfinal on Thursday.
