RUTHVEN, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The 34th Annual Bully Bullhead Weekend returns to Ruthven this weekend.

The event gets underway Friday and runs through Sunday, July 12.  Lost Island-Ruthven Betterment Association President Lisa Markley says the three-day celebration features a packed schedule of activities for all ages.

Friday’s events also include the Gilson Riecke Memorial Tractor Ride, a grill-out at Iowa State Bank with entertainment by South 71, the Citizen of the Year presentation, and an alumni basketball game.

Saturday’s schedule features the annual fishing contest, the Brian Waldstein Memorial 5K, 10K and Fun Run, a vendor market, and the annual parade at 1:30 p.m.  Markley says there is also something new for visitors to check out this year.

The Ruthven Historical Society will host a fundraising luncheon Saturday as part of its efforts to preserve local history. The organization recently took over the former Masonic building in downtown Ruthven.  The weekend wraps up Sunday with a pancake breakfast, trap shoot, co-ed volleyball tournament and a Freedom Park dedication ceremony.
