Pocahontas, IA (NorthwestIowaNow) – A routine traffic stop in Pocahontas led to drug charges for two Nebraska residents on Sunday.
A deputy with the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Highway 4 and Airport Road at approximately 11:01 a.m. on July 12 for speeding and following too closely.
During the stop, deputies allegedly discovered illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Nineteen-year-old Alexander Joseph Thurmond of Omaha, Nebraska, and a 17-year-old female passenger from Omaha were both charged with Possession of Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
Thurmond was booked into the Pocahontas County Jail.
The juvenile was released to a responsible party.
