Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Girls Soccer team hosted Spirit Lake/Park/Okoboji on Tuesday at the Northwest Iowa Soccer Field for the Class 2A Region 2 Semifinal.
Spencer got out quick when Faith Staedtler scored her 5th goal on the year just under 2 minutes into the game.
At the very beginning of the games 7th minute, SLPO was called for a handball in the Penalty Box and Addison Hoben knocked in the PK to make the match 2-0 in favor of the Tigers.
Hoben would make it 3-0 a little under 10 minutes later on a great run to the goal that was assisted by the State’s leader in that category, Olivia Jacobson.
Gabby Staedtler scored her 3rd goal on the year from the top of the penalty box in the match’s 49th minute to make it 4-0.
Addison Hoben would make it a first half hat-trick in the 35th minute, giving Spencer a 5-0 lead that they would take into the locker room.
The Tigers came out very aggressive in the second half despite going into the wid. Addison Hoben would score her 4th goal of the contest and the 64th on the year, which she is the current State leader in.
Olivia Jacobsen usually plays the role of the Spencer facilitator, but she scored her 3rd goal of the year right after getting a steal in SLPO territory.
SLPO hadn’t scored against Spencer since 2015, but Sophomore Claire Turner changed that by hitting a goal in the games 68th minute and 78th minute. Turner made it 31 goals on the year, a category she ranks 4th in Class 2A in.
Spencer’s 7-2 win advance them to the Class 2A Region 2 Final where they await the winner of North Polk and Boone, who’s semifinal match was moved to Wednesday due to severe weather in central Iowa. That semifinal match will be played at 7:00 on Wednesday in either Alleman or Spencer.
