Estherville, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Estherville Police Department confirms counterfeit currency has been found in town. A local financial institution received more than one fake 100 dollar bill last week. Police Chief Brent Shatto says these particular bills are smaller than normal, and have Chinese writing on the back.
In recent weeks customers of an Estherville Credit Union have been receiving texts that are a scam. The texts appear to be legit with an Estherville phone number attached. It has been asking the receiver to confirm a cash transfer known as an ACH, or Automated Clearing House transaction.
