Algona, IA — A Lakota man was honored Monday for assisting two teenagers injured in a car-train accident in Northern Kossuth County on July 14th. Sheriff Roger Fisher says Alex Horak is a hero.
Horak risked personal injury to pull 16-year-old Hunter and 12-year-old Owen Blocker out of their vehicle as it was catching fire.
The Sheriff also recognized dispatcher Monica Peruschl and Teres Block for keeping cool during the incident. The brothers are expected to make a full recovery. They were both well enough to attend Monday’s ceremony in Algona. The were Southbound in a Chevy Impala that ran into the Eastbound Union Pacific train near Lakota.
