Spencer, IA — A multi-county drainage repair project is moving forward following a joint public hearing Tuesday.

Supervisors from multiple counties met to discuss repairs to Joint Drainage District 61 and Branch 61, a system that runs through portions of Emmet, Dickinson, Clay and Palo Alto Counties.

Clay County Board of Supervisors Chair Barry Anderson says the project stems from flood damage that occurred in 2024.

County officials are now working to move the repair project through the next phases.

Approximately 71 percent of the local share is attributed to landowners in Dickinson County, 15 percent in Emmet County, 13 percent in Clay County and less than one percent in Palo Alto County.

Officials approved the engineer’s report and set a bid letting for the project for Thursday, August 27, at 2 p.m.
