Sioux County, IA — A Northwest Iowa man is facing additional felony charges after authorities say he assaulted a corrections officer.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says a corrections officer was offering water to 46-year-old Boby Sithavong on Monday, August 17th, when he allegedly struck the officer in the face. Authorities further allege the assault continued near a metal bench, causing the officer’s head to strike the bench.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the officer suffered injuries requiring immediate medical attention, including a concussion.

Investigators say Sithavong later claimed he had simply slipped. However, court documents indicate jail surveillance footage showed him acting aggressively toward the officer until other jail staff intervened.

Court records show Sithavong has been charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations with Intent of Injury, a Class C felony, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D felony.

Sithavong was already facing separate charges of possession of methamphetamine and operating while under the influence following a motorcycle crash in Rock Valley earlier that same day.
