Spencer, IA — A representative from Main Street America visited Spencer Tuesday to conduct an accreditation review of Spencer Main Street.
Marcela Uribe, a Program Officer with Main Street America, spent the day meeting with business owners, property owners, city officials, board members, and other community stakeholders as part of the review process.
Uribe says one of the first things that stood out to her was the commitment she saw throughout the community to keep Spencer and its downtown thriving.
Another area Uribe highlighted was the age and energy of the Spencer Main Street board, which she said is unlike many Main Street boards she encounters across the country.
She found no major concerns during the review process but had some recommendations.
The accreditation review evaluates local Main Street programs on community engagement, organizational capacity, funding sustainability, strategy-driven programming, preservation efforts, and demonstrated results.
