Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Baseball team was also at home on Monday night against Estherville Lincoln Central.

It was a fantastic pitching matchup between ELC’s Owen Larson and Spencer’s George Lawson taking the mound. The two hurlers held their opponents scoreless through the first 2 innings.

Estherville Lincoln Central broke through in the top of the 3rd when Owen Larson launched a home run to left field with Layton Yager on base.

ELC’s 3rd run came in the top of the 5th when Larson scored again on the sacrifice fly from Cael Miller.

As the Tiger offense continued to struggle, Estherville Lincoln Central made their lead 4 when Tate White was driven in on the RBI groundout by Asher Molacek in the top of the 6th.

Spencer would respond when Jack Berends scored on an error to get the Tigers on the board.

Spencer would score again on an RBI single by George Lawson, scoring Cohen Rittenhouse, making it 4-2, but that would be it, as Estherville Lincoln Central’s Preston Crees locked down the save. Crees actually recorded 5 strikeouts in the inning, but there were two dropped third strikes, leading to baserunners.

Spencer’s 4-2 loss drops them to 7-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Lakes Conference. Spencer will go to Pocahontas Area tonight for a non-conference contest. Estherville Lincoln Central continues to roll in the early season, improving to 9-2 on the year. They will host Central Lyon on Tuesday.
