EMMET COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Emmet County has placed a one-year moratorium on new data center developments.
Resolution 26-25 was unanimously approved during a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, August 25.
Supervisor Todd Glasnapp said the action is intended to give county officials more time to educate themselves before taking any further action.
Vice Chair Tim Schumacher said county officials want to ensure local regulations keep pace with rapidly changing technology.
Questions surrounding water usage have also been among the concerns discussed.
The county is open to data center development but wants to fully understand the potential impacts before moving forward.
The moratorium is scheduled to remain in effect for one year, although supervisors could lift it earlier if an ordinance is completed before then.
