EMMETSBURG, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Emmetsburg Community School District has approved a $25 million bond referendum for a new school facility.

Superintendent Cory Jenness says the school board recently passed a resolution to place the measure on the November 3 ballot.

This marks the third attempt by the district to secure voter approval for the project. Previous bond votes received majority support but did not meet the required 60 percent threshold.

Since the last vote, district officials have changed the proposed location of the new school and reduced the debt service levy being requested from taxpayers. Jenness hopes those changes will help secure additional support this fall.

The district plans to hold community meetings, offer facility tours and provide information through mailings, social media and its bond information website ahead of the election.

Voters in the Emmetsburg Community School District will decide the fate of the bond referendum on November 3.
