SHELDON, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A section of U.S. Highway 18 in Sheldon will be closed for about a week beginning Monday, August 31.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, U.S. 18 will be closed in both directions between Marsh Avenue and Second Avenue/Old Highway 60 through 9 a.m. Saturday, September 5, weather permitting.

The project is being completed in partnership with Union Pacific Railroad to rehabilitate the crossing.

A marked detour will route traffic south on Marsh Avenue to Sioux County Road B-20, east on B-20/330th Street/West 16th Street, and north on Second Avenue/Old Highway 60 back to U.S. 18.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the work zone, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices, and remain alert for workers and equipment.

Officials also remind drivers that fines for moving violations are at least doubled in Iowa work zones.
