Ocheyden, IA (KICD) — Fifty-six years ago today – a series of tornadoes moved through the KICD Broadcast area causing significant damage, including rides at the Roof Garden at Arnolds Park Amusement Park.

91-year-old Shirley Wallace farmed a mile South and two miles East of Ocheyeden at the time, and still thinks about that day.

Wallace, her husband, 15-year-old daughter, and 10-year-old son hunkered down in the basement, as their house was lifted off its foundation and set back down.

The house was repaired and a portion of it still stands.
