Storm Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — With assistance from other agencies, the Storm Lake Police Department says they have cracked a burglary ring responsible for 10 stolen cars, car and home break-ins, and attempted break-ins that occurred between August 20th and September 26th.
Assistant Police Chief Patrick Diekman says private surveillance video footage provided by residents allowed authorities to obtain search warrants on Monday. Evidence gathered while searching individual homes has led to charges being filed against four individuals.
18 year old Derek Parra of Storm Lake, and 13, 15, and 17 year old male juveniles have been charged with theft, burglary, and operating motor vehicles without the owner’s consent. The investigation continues and further charges are possible.
All ten stolen cars have been recovered and returned to their owners.
The investigation was conducted jointly by Storm Lake Police, The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office, and Buena Vista County Juvenile Court Services.
In addition to Storm Lake, some of the incidents occurred in Lakeside, Alta, and Rembrandt.
