Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Two-term Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaars was given the “Spirit of Spencer Award” during the annual Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday. The former teacher, coach, and city councilman said he accepted the honor on behalf of the community.

Sara and Matt Ricke were given the Spencer Chamber’s “Business of the Year” award for the old church they transformed into the entertainment venue known as “The Great Hall of Royal.”

The Rickes were also cited for their volunteer work in the community in addition to the creation of a new hospitality business in Clay County.
