Mallard, IA (northwestiowanow) — A traffic stop near Mallard led to felony charges for a Bode man.

Deputies with the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted the stop in the 4900 block of 460th Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday.

Following an investigation, 36-year-old Matthew Mark Gagen of Bode was arrested. Court records show he was charged with third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony. The Sheriff’s Office identified the substance as methamphetamine.

He was also charged with third or subsequent offense possession of marijuana and driving while barred, both aggravated misdemeanors.

Court records also show Gagen faces a simple misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia and a scheduled violation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.

The Sheriff’s Office says Gagen was also given a written warning for improper lamps.

Gagen was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await an initial appearance before a magistrate.
