Terril, IA (northwestiowanow) — The City of Terril is expected to discuss the community’s water system Monday night following a drinking water advisory issued over the weekend.

The city issued the advisory Saturday after elevated manganese levels were detected in the water supply.

Officials said an issue involving sodium permanganate caused a light pink color in the water, and residents were advised not to drink tap water while testing and flushing efforts continue.

Among the items on Monday night’s agenda is a discussion regarding a new water treatment plant, along with a report from the city’s water department. Council members are also scheduled to discuss the possibility of issuing credits on water bills.

City officials have said residents may continue using tap water for bathing, showering, washing clothes and cleaning dishes while the advisory remains in effect.

The Terril City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
