Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow) — The Iowa State Patrol is reminding residents to stay alert as harvest season is underway.

Iowa State Trooper Kevin Krull says speeding and distracted driving continue to remain some of the biggest concerns on the road.

As combines and tractors become more common on rural roads this time of year, Krull says drivers should exercise patience and be aware of the speed difference.

The fall months also bring increased deer activity, particularly during the early morning and evening hours when visibility can be limited.

Krull says slower speeds, fewer distractions, and extra caution can help prevent crashes as traffic patterns change during the harvest season.

He also reminds drivers to follow Iowa’s hands-free driving law and keep their attention on the road.
