Northwest Iowa (KICD)– No serious injuries were reported in three separate incidents around the area.
Frist, a semi driver pulling a tanker trailer drove into the path of a train in Sheldon last Sunday afternoon. 65-year-old Duane Deno of Gaylord, Minnesota was Eastbound on Railroad Avenue and drove across the Union Pacific tracks ahead of the train. The Northbound train’s crew activated the emergency brakes but were unable to stop and clipped the rear passenger side of the tanker. Damage to the truck was estimated at 120 thousand dollars. Damage to the train is estimated at 20 grand.
Then, last Thursday an Ocheyeden woman rearended a snowplow in Lyon County. 28-year-old Nicole Philliph was westbound at the intersection of North 2nd Avenue East and Forster Court in Rock Rapids. She ran into the snowplow operated by 48-year-old Bobby Gruis of George when he was attempting to make a left-hand turn. She was charged with following too close.
A Minnesota man was arrested on several charges after a traffic accident on highway 60 near Alton last Sunday. 23-year-old Shawn Graplar of Fairmont lost control of his vehicle and entered the ditch where he struck a fence and utility pole. Medical officials treated him for minor injuries. Sheriff’s officials, though, investigated further and wound-up charging Graplar with OWI, possession of marijuana and cannabidiol, and also for carrying dangerous weapons under the influence after they allegedly found both a loaded and unloaded firearm in his pickup.
