Storm Lake, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — A Laurens man was sentenced to prison Monday in a Buena Vista County Courtroom.

31-year-old Oscar Ortiz of Laurens was sentenced in the Iowa District Court by Judge Shayne Mayer. Ortiz entered a guilty plea to the crime of Attempt to Commit Murder, a Class B Felony.

Ortiz waived his right to a delay in sentencing and the court sentenced the defendant to a prison term not to exceed 25 years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The State of Iowa was represented by Buena Vista County Attorney Paul A. Allen.
