Spencer, IA (KICD) – The 102nd Northwest Am is underway. KICD Sports was able to get out to the Spencer Golf and Country Club and speak with a few Golfers and Tournament officials.
They were able to get the first tee off early at 6:20 this morning. There were worries about storm damage, but it wasn’t as bad as expected.
That is Tournament Director Matt Conlon. He says the Grounds crew was at it most of the night into the early morning hours, making sure the course was ready for this morning’s flight.
David Blank is from Spencer originally and grew up attending the Northwest Amateur.
Blank is hoping to play all 72 holes this weekend.
Brett Benson was the 2023 Northwest Amateur Champion, after winning a 5-hole playoff. It was his first time winning the Tournament and he says it is a different feel coming back a champion.
Benson talked about which holes at the Spencer Golf and Country Club he usually plays well, and those that challenge him.
Benson says the Spencer Golf and Country Club feels like home.
You can follow along with the results as we get them on twitter through @cutler4steven or @KICDSports.
